Ken-ichi Horie is a 60-year-old Japanese sailor with a penchant  
for the difficult, if not the inexplicable.  He made a solo crossing of 
the Pacific on a home-built 19-foot plywood boat in 1962. 
He made a solo nonstop circumnavigation in 1973-74 and went 
around the world north to south in 1979-82 . . . . . . . . . .
